Finding the perfect airfare deal can be like finding a needle in a haystack using a blind dog and a shoe horn. No matter how good your intentions are it can be a stressful and frustrating part of your travel experience. But have no fear. Put the shoe horn away, let Bessy have a snooze and we’ll show you have to find the best flight deals using the wonder of Skyscanner.
Coming from Australia it can be crazy expensive to try and find flights. And I too was one of those people who spent hours scouring the internet to try and find the right price. Occasionally I would get lucky and find a great deal but having to talk things over with James usually meant that I usually lost that amazing price. Until one day my MIL, who might I add is fairly inept when it comes to technology, told me about Skyscanner and the joy of setting flight alerts. And in all honesty, I’ve never looked back.
Using Skyscanner you simply type in your departing city and where you would like the plane to land (aka the arrival city). Then by the magic of the internet, Skyscanner presents you with the best flight deals that are currently on offer. You can search through the options as well as change how many stops you want to take. I’m lazy and prefer the most direct way possible, though it isn’t always the cheapest.
Not sure where you want to go?
Skyscanner is more than just a cheap flight app. It can take you everywhere. Yup, you read that right. A not so secret fun function of the Skyscanner app is the EVERYWHERE feature. You just type in your departing destination, add in some dates and type in everywhere. The app then scans the internets for you and finds the best deals. Isn’t it amazing what technology can do these days?
It’s a fantastic way to find a new and affordable destination to go explore.
Monitoring the ever-present anxiety of price fluctuations
I’m never sure if I’m getting the best price for my seat on that plane. Occasionally we’ll talk about booking flights, I do a search and they are stupidly expensive. Never fear as I utilize the Skyscanner price alert function. This is so much fun. Whenever the price of your desired tickets go up or down, cause airfares do commonly go down, you’ll receive an alert to let you know. Meaning that you can, if you play your cards right, get the lowest price for your travels. More money for coffee and champagne.
So it’s that easy?
Yup. Now I’m sure that you’re wondering why I haven’t written you a massive 2,000 word how-to guide. Why? Because it really is that easy to find the best airfare deals with Skyscanner. I could go on for hours about how the little robots are working their little robot butts off behind the system but really it would be a bore and I have no idea.
So do yourself a favour and download the Skyscanner app now. I’m just going to sit back and wait to see what cheap chips flight deals I can get for our upcoming trip to Ostrava.

Travellers are some of the most financially savvy people you will ever meet.
Travellers are some of the most financially savvy people you will ever meet. Have you ever wondered how people afford to travel, invest & drink take away coffee?
My favorite feature of Skyscanner is that you can type in ANYWHERE as your destination. I have been on the road for 2 years and I often use this site to decided where to go next.
Yes, it is a great tool to save on flights. Actually, for habitual travellers, it will be a nightmare without such cost-saving tools. I hope they start covering more areas all over the world.
I live by skyscanner. I literally don’t go a day without using the “everywhere” feature. I didn’t realize you could set up price notifications.
I love Skyscanner! I use it all the time, and the calendar function is handy too if you’re flexible on dates like I usually am. I’ve never used the ‘anywhere’ option, that would be so much fun to just go wherever is cheapest, who knows where you’ll end up!
I have been using Skyscanner for my searches too. They do give the best options and I love their alert feature. It is extremely useful when there is a sale on a particular sector. It has helped me save quite a few pennies. Cheers
Each time I read a post about Skyscanner, I ask myself, how come I don’t try this for airfare deals? Somehow, I can never really crack it, because my travel time and destinations are always fixed. Have to change that part!
Skyscanner is my favourite place to find cheap deals! The everywhere function is how I’ve ended up in Oslo and Prague on such good deals! I love how flexible it is, and it is always my go-to when booking a flight.
I love Skyscanner – I first used / heard about them when I was in Europe, and they were the best way to compare and find the cheapest flights during my year away, but then I realized they were amazing for flights everywhere, so it’s definitely my go to for finding the cheapest flights – the app is great, and I totally jump on it and play around with the everywhere feature whenever I have a bit of wanderlust – usually just for fun, but I’ve been tempted into taking a spontaneous trip from using that feature more than once :D!
I keep forgetting to use Skyscanner via desktop, so maybe the app will also improve my memory. Especially since I am constantly using apps these days. Apps used to intimidate me before and I was reluctant to download just any old app, but if you say Skyscanner app is a winner then I’m sold! Thanks for the tip.
I love Skyscanner. It’s a great way to get good deals. I didn’t know about the “everywhere” feature, that is so cool. I would love to try it and see where the deals take me. Thanks for sharing.
The EVERYWHERE feature in Skyscanner is the absolute best! Sometimes I don’t know where I want to go, so I wait to see what deals come through. I love that Skyscanner does all of the work for me! Great post!
I love Skyscanner! I use it whether I have a specific destination in mind or just battling a bout of wanderlust. I found a great deal recently from Paris to Bangkok for less than $500. What a deal!
Hey, didn’t even know about the Skyscanner before. Sounds nice that it can not only find you the best deals, but actually alert you when the price is going up or down? That seems like a great feature, right! 😉 And would have to see about that “everywhere” option, sounds interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion, would love to check it out. 🙂
Hi Jean,
Apps like Sky Scanner are making it so easy to find good deals. Cool note too on price changes and anxieties; I recall my wife getting flustered after minute to minute price changes, let alone day shifts. Having this cool tool in your travel arsenal makes your life easier.

Love how simple and straightforward you’ve kept your write up! You know i love Skyscanner and the fact you can save searches and get price alerts helps me a lot with planning London trips!
I will use skyscanner sometimes to check out where can I go with the flight budget and time that I have. It’s really helpful!
Great advice! I bounce between skyscanner and skiplagged… Depending if I know where I want to go!
so SIMPLE but so TRUE. I wonder what will come after SKyScanner??
Why does something need to come after Skyscanner?
It can be hard to find cheap flights. I always find that travel agents don’t save you money at all so yes sky scanner helps!!
It’s a pity I’ve never used skyscanner ! It seems so easy to use with only a few clicks & great to save money on flights. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Skyscanner is my favorite site when I have a three day weekend and have no idea where to go, lol! Sometimes the most random cheap flights pop up, but cool to plan a trip somewhere you never thought to go.
Ive never used skyscanner, but yes am always looking for great deals on flights (esp as a family of four). I had no idea that everywhere feature existed. love that!
Skyscanner is my go to! I love the search everywhere and anytime options. It’s so easy to use. Great share! More people definitely need to know about Skyscanner! 🙂
Yes! I love Skyscanner. It has changed my life completely! Great post, very helpful for those who haven’t used it before!
