I wasn’t sure that I would ever come back. That I would be here click clacking away at a laptop, putting random thoughts into words and throwing them out into the universe but heck, it’s 2025 and here I am. There was a certain spark that had died for me here in this space and place. I grieved the new post Covid world and the death of many opportunities that I had. It was a shitty time to be in Australia and say you were a content creator.
Now that it has been a hot minute of me hiding I’m ready to return to the online world an funemployed chicken owner. Not that I haven’t been doom scrolling on socials and keeping in touch with friends but just a long, long – I need to look up my password – long time since I logged in here.
What have I been doing for the past few years?
Travelling. Working a 9-5. Having a moment and buying a house in a very small regional town and nearly two hours away from the airport. Just the usual I’m not having a midlife crisis but I am kinda having some sort of crisis moments and making big life decisions. I personally hate moving house and I did need the summer to recover from that ordeal.
Raising Chickens
I can confidentially saw that I am in no way shape or form going down the tradwife to altright pipeline. Not event close my friends. If you’ve followed along any of my social accounts you’ll have seen the adventures of the chickens. This summer I had a few hens that absolutely refused to get off of the nest and went broody, so I purchased some fertilised eggs and tried to let nature run it’s course. Spoiler alert – Nature gave us roosters. Next Spring I will consider buying sexed day old chicks so there is a higher likelihood that I’ll have baby girls, not more roosters clucking about.

Reading
I’ve been reading. A lot. As a child I would devour books and beg my parents for more. Thankfully my trusty Kindle (and libraries!) have kept me going strong hiding from reality amongst the digital pages. Over the past year I’ve read close to 100 books and it doesn’t look like I’ll be slowing down any time soon. My plan is to start sharing with you all some of the amazing books I’ve read each month and encourage you to escape the doom and gloom of the world and read more.
Travelling
I haven’t stopped travelling, nor did I loose my love for it. I’ve just changed the way that I travel. No longer going on fast and furious content trips I’ve been trying to go to more unique places and embrace the adventure. In 2023 I went to Iraq and 2024 hiked a section of the Kumano Kodo in Japan. Yes I do still have plans on sharing these trips with you as they are too amazing to not share!
Baking
A lot of baking. Ridiculous amounts of baking. Cakes, cookies, biscuits and bread. Experimenting in the kitchen in a safe for work kinda way. I’m in the process of starting a new substack – OnlyBakes – that will cover my baking adventures and sharing the recipes with everyone.
What’s next?
Well 2025 is a bit of a dumpster fire, now isn’t it. I’m not sure what this year will hold for me. I turn 40 and I’m really looking forward to embracing this new chapter. There’s a few more domestic trips on the cards and a fun adventure to Turkey later this year.
Toby is now an old man at age 14. The past few years since we said farewell to Milly I’ve made it a priority to spend as much time with him as possible. Which does mean changing up the adventures from big overseas trips, to shorter local trips that he can join in on. This year I am headed off to Bali (for the first time!) and Turkey.
