How long is a piece of string?
Can I have your string?
Where is the line between insanity and creativity?
What is your favorite cheese?
What is the difference between living and being alive?
When is the best time in life to travel?
These are just a short snippet of the fun questions I get asked and respond with on a daily basis. Well just about. Ok so some are questions that I ask potential candidates during phone interviews.
The two biggest questions I honestly get is how to you have the money to travel? And When is the best time in life to travel. The first question we’ve mildly tackled in previous posts such as It’s time to ignore these five reasons (excuses) why you will never travel
When ever someone brings up the big Money question I always think (and occasionally say)- Travel in it’s simplest form does not have to be a bank breaker. A short well timed trip can rejuvenate yourself and reinvigorate your desire to travel. Now money is always going to be an issue. Getting it, keeping it, spending it. If you want to travel you need to realign your priorities. Put aside that pint of beer each week and watch your money grow. So why not start now?
Travel is a truly life changing and personal experience. I still believe that it is the only thing that you can buy that makes you richer. The right time depends on a few key selection criteria-
- Do want to travel? No seriously do you? Or are you just drawn to the romantic ideals that you think you should follow to make yourself seem more interesting?
- Do you have annual leave? Yes-Congrats now let’s use it. Next-when can you use it?
- Money- How much do you actually want to spend? Not what you think you can/should but what can you afford? Flights to there maybe cheap when you’ve booked them but what is the living expenses going to set you back?
If you’ve answered yes to the questions above you have one final question to answer- Destination! Where do you want to go? This can greatly affect potential times and locations. There is only so much rain that one can tolerate during the rainy season. It isn’t called the rainy season for no good reason. At this point a good set of research skills come in handy. Or a brilliantly honest travel agent.
So you want to travel, you either have annual leave to take or are willing to go anyway and you have money. So why wait? Travel now. See the world and enjoy yourself.
Proudly the ‘black sheep’ I follow my heart and not societies silly desires. Into the wild I go.
