So for anyone who knows us you will know the few simple things in life keep us happy, healthy and generally nice people. Unhappy people aren’t nice people. Any way I digress. The best way to explain us is adventure lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, fun time foodies and most importantly coffee nerds. All the time accompanied by two little demanding dogs.
When we travel in Australia these two little Jack Russell x terrorists always accompany us on most trips. Much to the distress of certain family members. Both Milly and Toby are rescue dogs. Milly came from a young family who couldn’t house her anymore. Toby was generously re-homed to us by Heading for Home Central Victoria after spending an extended time in a New South Wales country pound. Not surprisingly both these two have taken on our love of food and coffee. So much so that Milly will get out of bed if she hears the milk being frothed.
Traveling with pets is no different to traveling with unorganized friends. Actually these two are easier to round up and get moving in the mornings. We travel out of small vehicles, depending on the location.
Along with our general things we keep the packing list for the puppies exceptionally simple. There is no need to pack the kitchen sink for these guys. Remember they are dogs and require a little less on the entertaining side than children.
Packing list for puppies-
- Dry dog food
- Small tins of dog food/dog log food if we have the car fridge in
- Feed bowls
- Water bottle-minimum 1ltr
- Teeth cleaning treats
- Leads, collars, harness
- Bedding
We have recently upgraded to a pop-up tent. The joy of this new technology is the two skins are joined. Making the little annex area at the front doggy friendly. We can get a good nights sleep, the dogs are safely confined within the tent and can happily watch us sleep.
If you are looking to book accommodation don’t be afraid to ask if they will accept pets. Make sure you are open and honest about the size and style of your pet. Our two are indoor, child friendly, coffee drinkers. We haven’t been knocked back yet based on this description.
If you are adventurous and want to go camping just double check that dogs are allowed. In Australia you can’t take dogs into National Parks and some State Parks. Rangers generally aren’t too friendly towards you and may find more pleasure in handing you a fine.
In Australia pets are not allowed to travel in the general cabin. If you want to fly with your beloved pet you will need to check them in. Just like a suitcase.
In all honesty we find traveling with our two little fury friends only slightly different to travel on our own. You do need to be a bit more observant on where they are and what they are doing. As well as take it in turns to use the bathroom or grab a coffee IF you decide to let them out of the car. In general our local travel experience is enhanced when Milly and Toby join us. We enjoy the ride, so why shouldn’t they?
Do you have any quirky tricks and tips for pet travel?
Looking forward to getting to know the little Rascals! They look like heaps of fun!
What do u do for roaming/exercise here in Australia? do you hike in the bush? I guess there’s loads of little secrets in Victoria the wandering traveler would miss and the Melbournite would only know!
Also adore coffee!
You seem like very genuine and nice people and it would be our privilege to take care of your pad and 2 little tearaways while you are out making an epic adventure across South East Asia
